An Education in Journalism, Finance and Falafel
My first event press credentials were issued by the United Nations Student Journalism Programme in 2007, when I covered deliberations on the rights of indigenous peoples battling climate change for NYU’s student newspaper. That same year, I wrote for the B-Schools team at BusinessWeek Magazine. In 2009, I left the city with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and International Business, and amazing professional and cultural experiences, under my belt.

From NYU to the Far East
In 2008, my NYU Stern classmates and I traveled to Hong Kong as part of a course on international business. We met with representatives of Cathay Pacific, attended lectures on the Asian economy and, of course, ate incredibly well during our trip.

Welcome to The Tutorverse
From 2016-2017, I supported the owners of The Tutorverse to build their brand positioning and to execute paid campaigns over social media. I also helped The Tutorverse to move its CRM operations into HubSpot. While my expertise is not in digital marketing, per se, I was thankful for the opportunity to expand my horizons and be part of their success.

Staying Connected to My Alma Mater
For several semesters, I was a Teacher Advisor to students in Georgetown University’s Public Relations/Corporate Communications (my alma mater) Capstone class. I guided dozens of students based in Japan, Qatar, Germany and around the United States as they conducted research and wrote communications strategy plans for pro-bono clients.

Internal Communications Across 45+ Nationalities
I ran both internal and external communications and marketing while I was Communications Manager Healthpoint Hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 2014-2016; before that, I consulted for them while at Edelman UAE. The team and I wrote all bilingual marketing materials, launched the hospital’s social media presence and worked closely with HR on employee engagement activities. We also supported strategic partnerships, including those with the Health Authority and Manchester City Football Club.

Strategic Partnerships and Sports Medicine
As Communications Manager at Healthpoint Hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE, I managed or supported the hospital’s major partnerships, including with the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development (MCKD) and Manchester City Football Club (MCFC). In 2016, my team and I organized a nationwide PR campaign asking school children to write about their favorite book, in tandem with MCKD’s Year of Reading; we sent the winning kids and their families to the UK to watch a match. We also organized the first-ever Sports Medicine Summit hosted by Healthpoint and MCFC under their Regional Healthcare Partnership.

25 Years of Matthew 25
As Communications Manager at International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) during its 25th anniversary year, I worked alongside Development and Field/Program colleagues to curate stories for digital/web and print, supporting major campaigns related to the anniversary, domestic and international crises and Christmas giving. I also created the non-profit’s first Standard Operating Procedure around communications/media.
Serenity and Hummus
My family loves Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa outside of Muscat, Oman. A quick flight from UAE, where I lived, the location, grounds, on-site restaurants and the hospitality of the Omani people cannot be beat.

100°F+ Immersion in the Arabic Language
I studied formal and Egyptian Arabic at the Alexandria Centre for Languages in summer 2008 before earning a minor in Arabic Studies as part of my NYU Bachelor’s degree program. (I’m still pretty strong at reading and writing in formal Arabic many years later.)
Process and Communications Consulting for FEMA
As a DC-based consultant to the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), I supported internal communications around the new Industry Liaison Program - just in time for FEMA to lead the US’ relief effort to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.
Pinnacle of My Time as at Georgetown Student
I graduated from Georgetown University’s Master of Professional Studies program in Public Relations/Corporate Communications in 2013. In 2012, I traveled to The Hague, Netherlands alongside classmates to present a donor campaign strategy to the Marie Stopes Foundation.

May I Live in Interesting Times
I served as an officer in the Office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan from June 2011 until October 2013, a contentious time in US-Pakistan relations. Among other responsibilities, I wrote speeches for policymakers, managed social media accounts targeting foreign publics, and was part of an interagency team supporting bilateral trade, entrepreneurship and international development. My swan song before departing for the private sector and the UAE: I was part of the team that launched WECREATE, Pakistan’s first incubator for women entrepreneurs.
Laptops for Refugees
In 2017, I served as pro-bono communications advisor to Thaki, a Dutch NGO that donates laptops pre-populated with educational content to Syrian refugees. If you believe in children’s access to education and digital literacy, and you have a laptop to spare, consider donating to them!

Helping the Gulf to Discover America
I advised two U.S. Senior Commercial Counselors for the GCC on three instances of Discover America, an annual campaign highlighting the best of American commerce and cuisine in the GCC and US-GCC partnerships in healthcare, trade, defense/space and other priority areas. I prepared campaign strategy in collaboration with the Embassy team, and wrote social media and web copy, op-eds and video scripts for the campaigns.

A Career Change into Change
Baltimore is where my career in change management and change communications began and continues. I’ve worked as part of teams at Northrop Grumman Corporation and Allegis Group to drive end-user adoption of major back-office technology transformations. I’m proud to be both ProSci and ACMP certified in change management.

Encounter with Elephants
Outside of Luang Prabang is Elephant Village Sanctuary & Resort, which takes in elephants who have outgrown the tourist scene so that they may live their last years in peace and better health. I spent one night there, alone and without wifi, TV or AC; it was one of the best nights of my life thus far.
